For his summer internship, Mark Steele is working as a credit analyst intern for Mission Bank, a community bank, in his hometown of Bakersfield, California. Mission Bank specializes in commercial loans, SBA loans, and agricultural loans. The core purpose of Mission Bank is “to fuel and grow vibrant and prosperous communities.” Through his uncle’s connections, he was able to get in contact with the CEO and regional bank president, where they offered him an internship after his third interview for the position.
As an intern, Mark’s main role is to spread financial statements. He has also been assigned a project that he will present during the last week of his internship. For the project, he is tracking the number of loans each relationship manager completes, where he will compile the information into an output report.
During his first two weeks at Mission Bank, Mark was able to shadow employees from different departments where he was able to learn about all of the different roles in banking. “I’ve learned how to work out of a bank teller window, draw up loan documents, analyze credit reports, and spread financial statements”. Thus far, Mark likes his internship, but is unsure if he would want to pursue a career in banking after he graduates. However, overall, his internship with Mission Bank has been a good experience.
What were you most nervous about before starting your internship?
I was very nervous about actually landing the internship, so once I started the internship all my other fears paled in comparison. Everyone knows that an internship is a major key to success. I knew that Mission Bank’s credit analyst internship would be an amazing opportunity and did not want to have to scramble to find another internship last minute.
