Left to Right: Megan Meckey and Nathan Glass (ASUP Business Senators and UP class 2023)

About Us

Hello! We are very excited to introduce ourselves as the two ASUP Business School Senators. My name is Megan Meckey and I am a junior here at UP studying Marketing and Political Science. I am working this year alongside Nathan Glass who is a junior studying Accounting. We have teamed up this year to work with students in the Pamplin School of Business, faculty, and other members of ASUP to help keep people connected and engaged on campus.

Goals

Some of our goals for the year are to connect students to different resources on campus, work with Dean DeVaughn on integrating him into our school, and be a voice for Business students. We wanted to run for ASUP to help communicate with students about what is happening around campus while being friendly and recognizable faces for people to talk to. Nathan and I value the community here at UP and being a part of ASUP is a great way to give back and be a resource for others on this campus. We hope to reach as many students as we can while on ASUP and continue to make connections with students and faculty.

This year I am serving on the Student Affairs Committee and as chair to the Bon Appetite Committee. I am working closely with Kirk Mustain and his team to constantly respond to student feedback. Nathan is chairing the Academic Affairs Committee where he works with a variety of faculty and students on different initiatives around campus. This semester ASUP has focused on reconnecting students, and one of the ways we have done this is through our ASUP newsletter. We had a successful tabling event where we gathered emails of students who wanted to stay in touch with ASUP projects week to week and are excited to have that up and running again. Our Campus Program Board has hosted a variety of events so far this semester, kicking off being back to school with River Boat. We are looking forward to hosting our first dance since February of 2020 this November.

Listening

In early October Emma Fuller, our President, organized a student leadership summit with other student governments in the Portland Metro area on campus. This was a great way for us to meet with other students and we have stayed in connection with many of the schools as a way to learn from one another.

Early November we held a town hall for business students where we learned about what is going well for students and ideas for improvement. We gained a lot of insight on big picture ideas students have for the Pamplin School of Business and we hope to work with students and faculty on implementing some of the ideas. It was great to learn how different programs within the PSOB have helped students in their professional and personal development. We are excited to continue the work we are doing with students and faculty to help bridge gaps when they are needed.
