KDUP

“Radio is Not Dead,” the slogan of KDUP, the on campus, student radio station at the University of Portland. This past week I got  the chance to hangout with student DJ, Elena Roberts, and talk a little bit about KDUP and all it has to offer students.

KDUPWhen you walk up to KDUP it doesn’t look like much. It’s an hold house-type building that has been converted into a radio station. However, when you walk in you see a collection of CD’s.

When I got to sit down with Elena, she talked about how she got involved in KDUP through a friend who worked at KDUP but they do advertise open DJ positions during the year. As a DJ, Elena says she gets an hour slot and can do whatever (as long as it’s school appropriate). During her show she plays her favorite music and some new music. Some DJs do host talk shows, for example one of the Hall Directors and students had a talk show where they reviewed restaurants in the Portland area. So, if music isn’t your thing there’s more out there for you. Elena says her favorite part about being a KDUP is getting to her favorite music with the UP community. Additionally, she said her job as a DJ offers a nice break from school and homework. For any prospective students (or current students) wanting to get involved  with KDUP, just like them on Facebook to keep up with their latest updates.

If you’re interested in 90’s alternative, Elena’s show, “Bad Radio” broadcasts her favorite 90’s alternative and new age music every Thursday from 8-9pm. If you’re interested in listening to KDUP, they broadcast on AM 1580 or you can stream it from the KDUP website.
