Joe Barhoum (MBA ’09), University of Portland Adjunct Professor and Sales Founder

What are you doing now? (as a UP alumnus)

I founded a sales-focused consultancy where I help organizations build out their sales pipeline and go-to-market strategy. This involves hiring/developing the right salespeople, engineering outstanding processes, and leveraging the right-fit technology.

Why did you choose UP Pamplin for your MBA?

I chose UP Pamplin primarily for the network connections I believed I would build. This turned out to be true. Some of my best connections are former classmates, professors, and professionals I met during the two years I spent earning an MBA from UP.

What advice would you give someone considering graduate education?

The success of an MBA or graduate degree is measured not by the physical diploma or the letters that follow your name, but by the impact on your future. If you want to take on the responsibility of an MBA/graduate degree, ask yourself if you intend to earn more money in the future and better yourself professionally. If the answer is “yes” then ask the recruiting team and professors at UP how they can help you with this. What you will find is UP offers access to an incredible network that is not so big you get lost, or so small it only helps a few people. If you put in the work, you will earn the benefits.
