Students who test positive for COVID are required to report it through the form on the Pilots Prevent website. After they submit the form, they will be contacted by a COVID case manager. Here is a copy of the letter that is sent:
Hello:
Thank you for communicating your positive test through the reporting form. To best protect our community, we will have you relocate to an isolation room. In the room there is regular room furniture, a fridge and microwave for food and drinks, an attached or nearby restroom. Please take anything you will need to be most comfortable including bedding, shower and restroom essentials, items to entertain you, etc. If you forget items, please contact your roommate or friend for help getting it delivered.
While isolating you can continue to use your meal points.
Option 1: Have a friend order, pick up, and deliver your food to you. This option allows you to order specifically what you want from either the Commons or the Pilot House, from the daily menus, and determine how many meals you want to purchase per day.
Option 2: For 30 points, you can order a preset menu of meals for a day (lunch, dinner and the following morning’s breakfast) from the Commons via an order form. Use the QR code on the food services sign on the inside of the door where you are isolating. Special dietary needs will be taken into account. You must complete the order form by 9:30 AM and your food needs to be picked up between noon and 2:30 PM. You or a friend can pick up your food package on a rack to the right of the doors as you enter into the cafĂ© side of the Commons.
Once a day, you may leave your isolation space while wearing the provided N-95 mask and maintaining social-distancing while collecting your meals. All 3 meals for the day will be picked up at the same time. The university does not have the ability to deliver meals to you while in isolation, so consider contacting a friend or roommate to help with deliveries if needed.
You may only leave your isolation room to pick up your food from the Commons, to empty your trash cans, or for medical appointments. Please communicate with your professors since you will not be able to attend class in person. As you cannot attend class due to university policy during isolation, you will not be penalized for non-attendance. Any questions or concerns about class attendance should be directed to your professor or your school/college:
- College of Arts & Sciences: CAS@up.edu
- Pamplin School of Business: bus-up@up.edu
- School of Education: soed@up.edu
- Shiley School of Engineering: engineering@up.edu
- School of Nursing: nursing@up.edu
You will receive an email near the end of your isolation period with instructions on how to vacate your isolation space.
While in isolation, there are many different resources available to you. Please review the following if you have questions or need support:
- COVID Case Manager: pilotsprevent@up.edu
- Hall Director or Assistant Hall Director (copied onto email)
- Campus Safety (available 24/7): 503.943.7161 or 503.943.4444
- Health Center (M-F, 8:30-4:30): 503.943.7134 or HCC@up.edu
UP follows specific isolation processes designed to follow CDC and local guidance but to also protect our residential community. In the meantime, stay in this isolation space and use the following people as resources:

- Student Health Center (503)943-7134, hcc@up.edu
