Message from Mailing Services Regarding Packages Received for Fall Move-In

Boxes, books, and other essential belongings may be shipped to your student’s campus address before Move-In, but packages should arrive no earlier than July 27.

For Mailing Services to provide the best service possible, mail must be properly addressed.

Below is an example of how mail should be addressed to ensure it is not delayed:

John Doe (Please specify your student’s first and last name – no nicknames)
Corrado Hall, Room #111 (Please specify your student’s Residence Hall AND Room Number)
University of Portland
5000 N Willamette Blvd.
Portland, OR 97203

When packages arrive to campus, students will receive an email from Mailing Services indicating that an accountable item (mail/package) has been received in Mailing Services. The email indicates who the package is from and how the package was sent – UPS, USPS, etc. The email received could contain multiple package notifications, so students need to look at the body of the email to determine how many packages were received.

Due to COVID-19 and the limited amount of time allowed on campus for Move In, Mailing Services and Residence Life have partnered to get all packages received from July 27–August 14 delivered and placed in student dorm rooms. Packages will be delivered before and during the move-in process.

During the week of August 17–21, packages will be delivered directly to residence halls during a daily regularly scheduled time. Packages will continue to be delivered to the residence halls on a regular schedule throughout the semester. Please do not come to Mailing Services to retrieve packages.

Please note that internal processes can take up to two days, depending on package volume and time of delivery. Even if your student gets the notification that an item has been received by Mailing Services, it may not have gone through our internal processing yet. Students will not be able to retrieve their items while they are being processed. Please keep in mind that there may be a high volume of packages, and that your student might not receive their package for 2 full business days after it arrives at Mailing Services.
