Our guest panelists will share a presentation with important information tailored to incoming first-year students and their families, followed by a time for Q&A. Financing a high-quality education can be daunting, but our expert panelists will lighten your concerns with insights and tips for navigating the Financial Aid process as well as understanding your tuition invoices and payment options.

The Q&A portion at the end of this event is intended for ‘big picture’ questions. If you have personal questions about your student’s specific situation, please encourage your student to contact either the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@up.edu or the Office of Student Accounts at stu-acct@up.edu. Their offices are open all summer.

Navigating the Transition to University Life

Brenagh Sanford, Assistant Director for UP’s incoming first-year students, will share how parents can best support their students during their exciting and challenging first year of college. Get your questions answered about UP’s commitment to supporting student success.

Study Abroad Programs at UP

Study Abroad staff will share information about UP’s study abroad opportunities followed by some time for Q&A. Students will have their own information sessions on campus in September. Reach out to Study Abroad at studiesabroad@up.edu. Their office is open all summer.

During the academic year, students can pick up their mail and packages from the friendly staff in Mailing Services located in Tyson Hall using their side entry by the Residence Life office. Students will receive a notification to their UP email account when a package or a letter arrives for them.

Here is the correct format for sending mail and packages to your student throughout the academic year:

(that’s right–you don’t need to include University of Portland in the address!)

Are you driving from far away or flying when you bring your student to campus in August? Students moving into one of UP’s residence halls this fall can mail their boxed belongings directly to themselves at their new campus address, using the address format above, for secure storage at Mailing Services where they can be picked up on move-in day. The first day that Mailing Services can accept students’ belongings is Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Mailing Services will be open on move-in day, Thursday, August 22, and through move-in weekend for students to pick up their belongings to bring back to their new residence hall room. If you are driving to campus, you may want to drive to Printing & Mailing Services before checking in to your student’s residence hall room to retrieve their packages. Please note that students in Fields, Schoenfeldt and Lund Family Halls are within easy walking distance of Mailing Services

Applications will open by the start of fall semester to study abroad in Summer 2025, Fall 2025 or Spring 2026, and will close in November.
