Dear UP Community,
The return to our first in-person Commencement Weekend at the University of Portland since 2019 is exciting for Pilots everywhere, especially the Class of 2022. With the COVID-19 virus still circulating, our UP community shares the following important information to help ensure a safe and successful Commencement:
- We strongly recommend that visitors wear masks inside our venues and at all Commencement events, except while eating or drinking. As a courtesy, masks will be available at multiple locations.
- We also strongly recommend that Commencement participants and graduating students wear masks during our ceremonies. However, when speaking at the podium, crossing the main stage, receiving degrees and awards, or posing for photographs, they may consider temporarily removing their mask.
- Throughout the 2021-22 academic year, vaccinations and boosters have been required of all UP students, faculty and staff. While we will not be checking the vaccination status of our Commencement visitors and guests, we ask that attendees also be vaccine and booster compliant or have a negative COVID test within 72 hours of our ceremonies.
- Due to anticipated crowds, we’re encouraging Commencement visitors and guests to arrive at least one hour before the ceremony you’re attending. As a security precaution, all attendees must pass through metal detectors and scanners – no exceptions. Any bags brought to Commencement events will be inspected by security personnel and can be no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 6 inches in dimensions. No backpacks will be allowed.
On behalf of our UP community and the Class of 2022, we thank you for your cooperation and look forward to seeing you Commencement Weekend. Additional Commencement information and updates can be found online at https://www.up.edu/commencement/index.html.
