Dr. David Alexander
January 19, 1957 – May 23, 2013
Biology Professor at UP: 1995-2013
One year ago on May 23, 2013, the University lost a beloved Biology professor, Dr. David Alexander, who had been battling cancer for two years. Dr. Alexander arrived on the Bluff in 1995 as a faculty member in the Biology department, teaching and advising many students who would go on to careers in medicine or dentistry. Dr. Alexander received the Becky Houck Excellent Advising Award in 2013 for his work as advisor to students in Health Professions, Pre-medical, Pre-dental, and Pre-optometry programs.
In the words of one of his students, Suzanne Zeitouni ’01, “Dr. A was my favorite professor, my advisor, and my employer for four years at UP. But like with every single one of his students, he guided and supported my decisions not only while at UP but also the ten years that followed and I always looked forward to visiting on my trips back to Portland. He’s the reason why I ultimately want to be teaching Biology at a University setting to give back even a little of what he gave me.”
