Rules and Eligibility

ENTRIES

Registration is open to all current UP students, staff, and faculty

Entries can be any genre or theme and must not exceed 3 minutes in length. Applicants must select one of the five entry categories: Narrative, Humor, International, Documentary, Animation.  Entries will be judged against each other within their specific category.

NOTE: Profanity, sexual content and derogatory language towards any group or specific individual is prohibited.

Each applicant may submit any number of works, but a separate entry form must be submitted for EACH work.

The applicant must have prime artistic responsibility for the video submitted. Roles considered to have prime artistic responsibility are director, producer, writer, or editor.

FORMAT FOR SUBMISSION

Although any shooting format may have been used to produce the original film or video, the only acceptable submission format for consideration is MP4 or MOV in HD at a minimum of 720p.  Please follow the Submission Process guidelines for how to submit your entry.

Entries will be judged by a panel selected by the Kate Regan Short Film Festival steering committee. Entries will be judged on Technical skills e.g. sound quality, use of music, and camera shots and Overall Creative Expression.  A sample judge’s form can be found here: Judge’s Scorecard.

The judges use a 100% blind submission policy.  Do NOT include any identifying titles, narration, text, or credits in your video that clearly link your name and your submission.

PRIZES

An award of $100 will be given for the First (1st) place entry in each of the 5 categories for submission.

The Best in Show will be chosen from among the first place entries from each of the 5 submission categories and will receive an additional $50 in prize money on top of the $100 award for being the best in a category for a total of $150.

 

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY

The deadline for receiving entries is January 29, 2016 at midnight

By submitting the entry form, the applicant (a) certifies that the exhibition of the submitted entry will in no way violate any copyright laws or any other rights of any person, film, or corporation and (b) accepts all responsibility relating to – and indemnifies and holds harmless the University of Portland, and all other sponsors and their representatives from – any and all disputes and liabilities arising from any such claims by a third party.

In addition to agreeing that the material is clear of all copyright concerns, you are granting The Kate Regan Short Film Festival the rights to show your video or images from your video, in part or in their entirety, during the Kate Regan Short Film Festival and for use in promotional materials related to the contest in print, electronic, or digital form at any time, before, during and after the contest.

In addition, unless you specifically direct The Kate Regan Short Film Festival not to do so, by entering your work in the contest you are granting permission for your video to be included as part of a compilation video showcasing contest entries.. If you do not wish your entry to be included in the compilation video, please print the compilation Opt-Out Form here, fill in the name(s) of all filmmakers, sign, and include with your video entry upon submission.

Applicants who do not follow these rules and regulations will have their entry returned and be disqualified from the competition.
