For Faculty

What should I tell my students about the Film Festival?
Tell your students the Kate Regan Short Film Festival is FUN!  First and foremost, it is a campus-wide celebration and a great community builder.  Let them know their contributions are welcome and there is support built into every step of the process.  No matter where they’re starting from, there is help for them to turn their ideas into full-fledged contenders for a prize in the festival.  Encourage your students to participate!

What types of projects make good entries?
If you’re doing a storytelling project in a current class or if you’ve done one recently, your students have completed work that might easily fit into one of the five submission categories: narrative, documentary, humor, animation, and international.  Other types of multimedia projects may work as long as they are under 5 minutes in length.  If you’re unsure, just ask us!  Contact Maria Erb at erb@up.edu or x8841 or José Velazco at velazco@up.edu or x7602.

What resources are available?
Your students can utilize many incredible resources at UP that will help to make their projects the very best they can be.  The Digital Lab in the Clark Library is open seven days a week and contains seven workstations equipped with iMovie and other software.  In addition, the lab has video cameras, tripods and lavalier microphones available for checkout. The lab’s  Image Production Studio and  Audio Production Studio are great locations for capturing images and recording a soundtrack.

What’s the timeline for the event?
Video projects are time consuming, so you’ll want to tell your students about the film festival as soon as possible.  Deadlines for the festival are:

  • Early Bird Registration – on or before Feb. 5, 2015
  • Standard Registration – Feb 26, 2015

How can I support my students?
Encourage your students to submit something to the festival even if they don’t think it’s “good enough”.  If they submit something for the Early Bird registration, they will get help from Academic Technology Services and Library staff to make their projects better. This is a celebration of community on campus and an invitation to participate is extended to everyone in the campus community.
