This past Sunday, March 19th, Hawaii Club came into the KDUP studio to bring some Island sound to the KDUP airwaves. Promoting the UP Hawaii Club’s 51st Annual Luau, the DJ’s played Island Reggae. Check out the music they played below as well as information about the Luau.
The music we played is described as Island Reggae, where it infuses the natural reggae tones of Jamaica with some Hawaiian island vibes. It features sounds from the piano, guitar, saxophone, etc. and especially the Ukulele. This type of music provides you with a sensation of what it is like to be in Hawaii or any Pacific Island: Sunny days, beautiful beaches, gorgeous bright colors, relaxing and tanning, and not a care in the world. Most of the songs on this playlist share a common theme of “love,” a theme that is carried throughout the islands.

The theme for this year’s Lū’au is: Ho’olaulea Ke Kumu Honua which means “Celebrating Creation.” We chose this year’s theme as a way to pay tribute to the various Hawaiian Gods and Goddesses who created the beautiful islands of Hawaii, as well as to honor the incredible nature of everything that has been created.
In support of protecting and conserving the natural environment of the land and sea, we are proud to partner with Conservation International – Hawaii Chapter to educate the Portland community about their work in implementing sustainable fishing practices in Hawaii.
At the Lū’au this year, we will be holding a raffle fundraiser, where you could win a $20 gift card to Salt and Straw, a $50 gift card to Portland Gear, or a $100 Visa gift card! A portion of the proceeds will go towards funding CI Hawaii’s project on implementing tablet technology to monitor and improve the vitality of loko i’a (fishponds) around the islands that feed the local communities there.
