Career Fair season is upon us, and with the nerves such an event brings on, we might forget how to dress to impress. Sure, we know that wearing jeans to a professional event is not the best move, but after a long day of class and no time to run home to change, jeans may be the only option. Not a good look… While a career fair is not a job interview, the chance to interact with professionals is still a time to put your best foot forward. And that starts with a crisp outfit.
Here are a few tips and tricks to remember when assembling an outfit for both men and women:
~Tops~
- Blazer/shirt combo
- Conservative neckline
- Ironed and crisp dress shirt/jacket
- Classy tie in a darker color
~Dresses~
- Appropriate length, neckline and color
- short and bright pink with a plunging neckline may be a dress for another time
~Bottoms~
- Skirts no higher than 2 inches above the knee
- Ironed slacks or pants
- Make sure the cuff isn’t too long to be messy or stepped on
~Other~
- Light to no distracting accessories
- Easy on the cologne or perfume
- Comfortable shoes; flats, low heels, dress shoes, loafers
- Leave the sneakers at home!
It seems like there’s a lot of “don’ts” which is 1000% true. But while this outfit may not express much fashion-wise, it showcases your ability to present yourself professionally. Your outfit is advertising, “Yes! I am capable of ironing a shirt instead of showing up with creased lines on my collar!” It may seem silly, but the care of your clothes can relate to the
