The Mitchell’s Rifle Squadron or MRS is a group of highly motivated cadets in pursuit of honoring America and the veterans who have served the Armed Forces through precision in drill.

The Mitchell’s Rifle Squadron mission is to perform precise drill to honor America and the Armed Forces, as well as foster esprit de corps among the ROTC cadets of the University of Portland. This is accomplished by volunteering to serve at various ceremonies in the community, on campus, and for Det. 695 AFROTC. Such service includes exhibition rifle drill and color guard demonstrations. 

Membership is open to all ROTC cadets at the University of Portland. In order to be considered an active member, you must actively attend MRS practices, pass an Open Ranks Inspection (ORI) and a Flight Drill Evaluation (FDE), and participate in at least one Color Guard per year.

Cadets at Detachment 695 participate in physical training to stay fit-to-fight. Below you will find a carefully curated list of strength workouts put together by the Cadet Wing’s Physical Fitness Officer (CW/PFO).

Arnold Air Society (AAS), named for General Henry “Hap” Arnold, is a professional, honorary, service organization advocating the support of aerospace power. AAS is a private, non-profit organization made up of Air Force ROTC cadets from 150 of the nation’s colleges and universities with about 3,000 cadet members nationwide. For the members, the “service” aspect is the foremost aspect of this club in their minds because of the continuing contributions to our campus, our community, and our corps. AAS’s primary mission is to develop future Air Force officers.

AAS provides cadets with many important leadership and organizational opportunities that allow them the chance to grow. With national conventions, like RCON and NATCON, cadets have the opportunity to meet and interact with other cadets from across the country as well as military members associated with the organization.

At the University of Portland’s AFROTC Detachment 695’s Richard J. Mallon Squadron, cadets focus on community service in our local Portland Neighborhoods. Nurturing the ideals of continuous improvement in our professional and personal lives allows us to accomplish our primary mission of becoming officers in the world’s greatest Air Force.

Spaatz Air Corps (SAC) is a club that prepares cadets for the profession of arms through aviation-related activities, marksmanship training, and morale-boosting events. The mission of SAC is to build a community among the cadet wing through socials such as hikes, paintball, on-campus events, and anything you want to see! The club provides opportunities for cadets to grow as leaders for their careers as future officers in the Air Force or Space Force. SAC is the perfect way to socialize in a relaxed environment outside of school, and all you have to do to join is show up!

 Spaatz Air Corps provides ground school training once per week for cadets interested in aviation. The purpose is to both explain the rated board selection process and give cadets a baseline knowledge of aviation they can build upon in their future training. Incentive flights will also be offered by cadets who have their private pilot license!
