UP Deans, Chairs, and Faculty interested in improving grant seeking skills should consider attending some free online training this summer. Here are 5 events we recommend, and please remember that as you build your grant seeking skills, you always need to connect with the UP Grants Office prior to submitting grant proposals!
1) Tech Soup’s – How to Use the Summer to Prepare Your Organization for Grant Seeking will be held on June 15th at 10am EST . TechSoup connects nonprofits and other change-makers who are using technology for social good. This is a nationally-attended seminar that will discuss attracting grant funds to help start, maintain, and expand your programs.
2) Also from Tech Soup – The Future of Fundraising on June 8th at 12 PST. How do we look at philanthropy in a post-pandemic society? This session will go over key trends, insights, and strategies that you need to know to stay ahead, raise funds and engage your donors moving forward into 2022.
3) The Murdock Charitable Trust – is a long-time partner with University of Portland, particularly with the College of Arts & Sciences through research and faculty start-up grants. Get to know the man behind the Trust on June 17th at 12:30 PST by attending the Jack Murdock Story webinar. Learning more about our funders forges a better relationship for us all. https://murdocktrust.org/2021/05/join-us-for-the-virtual-premiere-of-the-jack-murdock-story/
4) Foundant Technologies – Foundant Technologies specializes in making philanthropy easier and more impactful through forward-looking technology solutions. Sign up for “The Lowdown on Executive Summaries and Letters of Inquiries” on June 24th 9am PST. You will learn how to effectively communicate key information in the form of an Executive Summary or Letter of Inquiry (LOI). LOI skills are often needed when first approaching a private foundation. Executive summaries are usually required of almost any proposal – including for government or private funders.
5) Grant Station – While the rest of the above events are FREE, this link will bring you to a list of on-demand resources that cost between $39 – $100 for content such as “Building Your Annual Grants Strategy,” a great resource for Deans and Chairs, and “The Art of Raising Funds from Local Businesses” for those who navigate partnerships with corporations.
