Visio Divina, a contemplative Lenten prayer, will be held twice on Wednesday, March 18, at 12:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. The meditative prayer lasts approximately 30 minutes and focuses on an image from The Saint John’s Bible. The volume containing the focal image for that week will be available for participants to explore before and after the prayer. Visio Divina is sponsored by Campus Ministry and the Garaventa Center.
All staff and faculty are invited to engage in Visio Divina on Wednesdays during Lent. To accommodate varied schedules, there will be two sessions offered, at 12:45 and 7:15 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. In the frenetic pace of most of our days, Visio Divina is a chance to step into quiet contemplative individual reflection centered on an image from The Saint John’s Bible, a different one each week. Each session lasts about 30 minutes.

The Garaventa Center and Campus Ministry invite all members of the UP community to step away from the frenzy of the season for Visio Divina on Wednesdays during Advent, 12:45 and 7:15 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. Visio Divina, which means “sacred seeing,” is an ancient form of contemplative prayer centered on sacred images. It is rooted in monastic tradition.
Participants will experience the Divine in images from the University’s Saint John’s Bible, a different one each week. Visio Divina asks only for our silent presence; each session lasts about 30 minutes.
Campus ministry and the Garaventa Center host Visio Divina each Wednesday during Lent at 12:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. All are welcome to spend time in contemplative prayer, focusing on beautiful images from the St. John’s Bible.
On Fridays during Lent, the Stations of the Cross are prayed at 4:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. This prayer walks participants through the story of Christ’s passion and crucifixion.
Founders’ Day Evening Prayer: a twenty minute immersion of scripture, psalms, and sacred songs to close the events of Founders’ Day in a spirit of gratitude and prayer. Please join us on Tuesday, April 8, at 4:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher.

For all who would like to step outside the frenzy of daily life for an opportunity to pray and contemplate in an ancient way, here’s your chance. This Lent, the Garaventa Center and campus ministry are teaming to offer Visio Divina in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. Visio Divina has its roots in monastic tradition, and is a meditative means of entering into an image to see what God might have to say to you in silence. Each encounter will focus on a different image each week from the University’s St.John’s Bible Heritage Edition.
In response to feedback from staff and faculty who would like to participate in the community’s prayer life but prefer not to come back to campus after their work day ends, there will be two Visio Divina sessions each Wednesday in Lent, starting March 19 at 12:45 p.m. (30 minutes) and 7:15 p.m. (40 minutes). Visio Divina requires nothing from you but your quiet presence, and all are welcome. For more information, please contact Karen Eifler (email@example.com) or Beth Barsotti (firstname.lastname@example.org).
