Tyler Zimmerman Farewell Party, Sept. 13

The student activities office will be hosting a farewell party for Tyler Zimmerman, associate director for student engagement, on Friday, September 13, at 4 p.m., in the Pilot House. Tyler began as an assistant hall director in Christie Hall in fall 2012. He was hired as coordinator for weekend and late night programming in fall 2014, and was promoted to his current position the summer of 2018. Please come wish Tyler well as he moves on to a position at a marketing firm in the Pearl District.

20th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Nov. 28

All are welcome to join ASUP for their 20th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, November 28, at 6 p.m., in the Pilot House. This year’s ceremony will feature the Moreau Center’s program manager for service and community partnerships Tshombé Brown as guest speaker. Come enjoy drink specials at the bar, holiday cookies, a photo booth, and more.

Student Activities Names Zimmerman to New Post

Tyler Zimmerman has been promoted to the role of associate director of student engagement in the Office of Student Activities, according to Jeromy Koffler, director. He will primarily work to support ASUP, the implementation of the new Engage platform, and the many programs within student activities.  Many faculty and staff may recognize Zimmerman through his role as weekend and late night program coordinator, and previously as the assistant director of Christie Hall. He is also a graduate of the University’s master of communication studies program and has been on The Bluff since 2012. Please join us in welcoming Tyler to his new role starting July 2.

Anchors Away: You’re Invited!

April 20, 2018

All faculty, staff, and their families are invited to Anchors Away on Thursday, May 3, on The Bluff behind Bauccio Commons, from 4-7 p.m. Campus Program Board and university relations invite the entire UP community to gather together to celebrate the conclusion of the academic year with a barbecue, bar, live music, and lots of fun activities for kids. Staff and faculty members will receive a free ticket in campus mail. Additional tickets for partners and family members will be available for $5 at the Commons during the event and the week before the event. Children under 10 do not need a ticket. Faculty and Staff: Time To Rock The Bluff, April 7

March 29, 2018

Campus Program Board (CPB) presents Rock the Bluff, featuring Louis the Child and Big Wild, on Saturday, April 7, at 8 p.m., in the Chiles Center. CPB has a limited number of faculty/staff tickets available from the Chiles Center Box Office (open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday). Faculty and staff must show their UP ID to get mezzanine tickets. Limit of two tickets per person (one faculty/staff plus one guest). Guests must accompany their faculty/staff host and are also limited to the mezzanine. A beer garden is open for guests over 21.

All Aboard For Riverboat, Sept. 2

riverboatAll faculty and staff are invited to take part in Riverboat, the annual student activities late-night campus tradition, immediately following the men’s soccer Ohio State game on Friday, September 2. The fun goes from 9 p.m. to midnight. Just follow the Villa Drum Squad to the River Campus for food carts, live music, carnival games, photo booths, henna tattoos, and a cash bar. Access to the River Campus will be from behind the President’s House; a shuttle will be available at the Beauchamp Center entrance.

Welcome Tyler Zimmerman

staff & faculty portraitsTyler Zimmerman has joined the student activities team as weekend and late night programming coordinator, according to Jeromy Koffler, student activities. He will primarily work to support Pilots After Dark, the Campus Program Board, and Pilot Audio and Lighting. Many faculty and staff may recognize Zimmerman through his role as assistant director of Christie Hall, and as an active participant of Moreau Center immersion programs. Tyler is currently studying for his master of arts in communication studies here at the University as well as serving as an intern for the National Association of Campus Activities, where he is working to increase conference engagement through the use of social media. Please join in welcoming Tyler to his new role.

Janet Banks, nursing, presented “Making it our Own: Innovatiove Course Writing Stages and Structures in a Concept-Based Curriculum Revision” (with Nicole Auxier), a poster presented at American Academy of Colleges of Nursing Baccalaureate Education Conference, Orlando, FL, November 2019.

Salvador Orara, Shiley School of Engineering, in his role as acting president AIGA Portland the professional organization for design, collaborated with the vice president of brand innovation at Nike to introduce “Impressions of Sport: 20 Years of Nike Communication Design” to the Portland design community at Swanson Studios in NW Portland on November 21, 2019. The one-night exhibition and presentation was open to members of AIGA and the community at large. As an education initiative, Salvador and his team worked with key faculty across different schools in the area including Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland State University, George Fox, and UP to provide students with private access tours to view the exhibit.

Martin Cenek, Shiley School of Engineering, had his paper, “Semantic Network Analysis Pipeline: Interactive Text Mining Framework for Exploration of Semantic Flows in Large Corpus of Text,” (with student coauthors Rowan Bulkow, Levi Oyster, Boyd Ching, and Ashika Mulagada) published in MDPI Applied Science. DOI: https://doi.org/10.3390/app9245302.
