Student Leadership Awards

Student Leadership Awards For 2019-2020

April 24, 2020

The third annual Leadership Awards were celebrated online and announced via the Student Activities Instagram account between April 20 and 24 as well as the University of Portland website. Fifteen student leaders and 2 staff members who  exemplified leadership and significantly contributed towards the University’s mission during the 2019 -2020 academic year received awards.

Division of Student Affairs Award Recipients include:

  • The Rev. John Van Wolvlear C.S.C. Award For Outstanding Involvement in Student Affairs- Diana Salgado Huicochea
  • The Outstanding Ambassador Award– Taylor Rayray
  • The Residence Life Award for Meritorious Service– Darsh Patel
  • The Pilot Award – Isa Siamundo
  • The Holy Cross Award – Rev. Fr. Charlie McCoy, C.S.C.
  • The Brian Doyle Student Media Award– Dora Totoian
  • The Kate Johnson Outstanding Service Award– Leah Carr
  • Shiley School of Engineering Intern of the Year Award – Dan Moldovan
  • Pamplin School of Business Intern of the Year Award – Natalie Nygren
  • College of Arts & Sciences Intern of the Year Award – Georgia Paulk
  • The Rev. Fred Barr C.S.C. Campus Ministry Leadership Award– Ryan Helbling
  • The Community Care Award– Elizabeth Tripp
  • The Rev. John B. Delaunay, C.S.C. Peer Health Advocacy Award– Aubrey Labonte-Clark) and Ellie Jacobs
  • The Student Affairs Award for Outstanding Contributions to Diversity and Inclusion– Carolina Cortes            
  • The Newcomer in Student Affairs Award– Tshombé Brown
  • The Outstanding Contributor to Core Themes Award– Michael Kranyak

Hannah Pick, Dundon-Berchtold Institute, published a review of Yuval Levin’s A Time to Build: From Family and Community to Congress and the Campus: How Recommitting to Our Institutions Can Revive the American Dream through the journal of Christian Higher Education (22 January, 2021; DOI: 10.1080/15363759.2020.1865123).

Jordy Wolfand, Shiley School of Engineering, published Assessing resilience of a dual drainage urban system to redevelopment and climate change. Journal of Hydrology. 2021. 596. 126101.

Stephanie Salomone, mathematics, was an invited participant at Envisioning and Enacting an Inclusive and Diverse STEM Professoriate: Aligning the Recruitment and Retention of Diverse STEM Faculty, an APLU Think Tank, virtual.

Hillary Gaudio and Randy Hetherington, education, presented Inequity in the classroom: Improving teacher training by listening to completer voice. Virtual paper presented at the Oregon Association of Teacher Educators (ORATE) conference.

Randy Hetherington, education, co-presented Training transformative leaders: Valuing teacher wellness in complex change. Virtual paper presentation at the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education (AILACTE) conference.

Jacqueline Waggoner, Randy Hetherington, Hillary Gaudio, Bruce Weitzel, James Carroll, education, presented Inequity and the reality of teacher preparation: Hearing the voices of completers. Virtual paper presentation at the Association of Independent Liberal Arts Colleges of Teacher Education (AILACTE) conference.
