QuickTime Removal from UP Windows PCs Starting September 15

smith-copy Apple announced earlier this year that they would no longer support QuickTime for Windows PCs, according to Sheila Smith, information services. To prevent any potential security vulnerabilities associated with outdated QuickTime software, technical services is taking steps to automatically remove QuickTime from all UP managed Windows PCs. Automated removal will begin the evening of Thursday September 15. QuickTime for Mac will not be affected.

Those who have been relying on QuickTime software for video playback are asked to use the VLC Media Player instead. VLC should already be installed, accessible from Start > All Programs > Multimedia > VLC Media Player. Also, remember that videos can be uploaded and stored in MediaSpace (media.up.edu) for playback in courses or in the classroom. MediaSpace video can be streamed to any connected computer or mobile device.
