Pilots vs. Pacific and San Francisco This Week

February 10, 2017

Join the athletics office this week to watch the Pilots men’s basketball team in action as they take on Pacific on Thursday night, followed by San Francisco on Saturday night. Thursday’s match-up will be a Battle of the Blazers as Terry Porter takes on former Blazer and Pacific head coach Damon Stoudamire. Saturday’s game versus San Francisco will host a pre-game Brewfest. Both match-ups are set to tip off at 7 p.m. Come out for two nights of family fun and great basketball! UP Volleyball Last Home Match, Nov. 21

volleyballPilot volleyball’s last home match of the year is Monday, November 21, which also means it’s Senior Night! The match is against WCC rival Gonzaga at 5 p.m. in the Chiles Center. The 2016 senior class, consisting of Katie Sullivan, Brittney Markwith, Monica Gajda, and Djurdjina Milovic, will be honored before the Pilots face Gonzaga. With eight WCC wins, the Pilots have recorded the most league victories since 1989. Please come cheer them on as they try to claim their highest conference placing since 1991.

Men’s Basketball Takes On Lewis & Clark, Nov. 18

pilotspCome watch the men’s basketball team take on Lewis & Clark College this Friday at the Chiles Center at 7 p.m. This young and exiting team is looking to start the new season in the right direction. Led by new head coach Terry Porter, this year’s team is sure to impress and entertain fans of all ages. Two Home Basketball Events This Week

November 13, 2015

basketball copyMake plans to join the Pilots men’s and women’s basketball team this week for two home games in the Chiles Center. The women’s team starts the action Monday, November 16 in the Chiles Center, taking on in-state rival Oregon State. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Then over the weekend the men’s basketball team will take the court on Sunday night at 7 p.m. The men are scheduled to play versus Abilene Christian. Tickets for both games are still on sale and can be purchased at the Pilots box office, located in the Chiles Center, or over the phone by calling x7525.

Make plans to come out to Joe Etzel Field today, Monday May 6, to catch a few (or all nine) innings of baseball as the Pilots return home to take on Washington State University at 3 p.m. The Pilots will then travel to Salem on Wednesday, May 8 to take on Oregon State at Volcanoes Stadium at 5:30 p.m. That’s an easy day trip so show your support for our Pilots on the road. Anita Gooding, social work, was selected as a 2020-2021 Field Research Scholar by the Transforming Field Education Landscape (TFEL) program at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Bob Butler, professor emeritus of environmental studies; Jenda Johnson, Earth Sciences Animated; and Nic Zentner, Central Washington University, published an animation titled “Ghost Forests: Evidence for a Giant Earthquake & Tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.” This animation explores how Native American oral history, geology of ghost forests in coastal Washington and Oregon, and written accounts of a tsunami that flooded Japanese Pacific Coast villages converge to document the most recent Cascadia subduction zone megathrust earthquake on January 26, 1700 at about 9 p.m. The Ghost Forest animation can be found on the IRIS website at: https://www.iris.edu/hq/inclass/animation/740 or on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xPbt8iiDRo&feature=youtu.be.
