Athletics Graduation Success Rate: Pilots Score 93 Percent

November 20, 2020

University of Portland athletics posted a 93 percent student-athlete Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to the latest data released by the NCAA. The GSR measures graduation rates for the most recent six-year graduating class of incoming student-athletes who enrolled between 2010-2013, and marks the ninth consecutive year that Portland posted a GSR above 90 percent as a department.

Portland’s men’s cross country and track and field, men’s soccer, and women’s cross country and track and field teams and women’s tennis each posted perfect scores during the most recent cohort. Eight of the 11 Pilot teams represented in the data posted a score of 90 percent or better.

The Division I Board of Directors launched the GSR in 1998 in response to college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students than the federal graduation rate. For more information contact athletics at x7117 or go to portlandpilots.com.

Student-Athletes Shine in Latest NCAA Graduation Success Rates

November 10, 2017

University of Portland posted a combined 97 percent student-athlete graduation success rate (GSR) in the latest data released by the NCAA, the highest rate in program history. The GSR and federal graduation rate (FGR) report was publicly released for student-athletes who entered college in 2010 among all Division I institutions as part of the annual NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program.

Portland’s baseball, men’s cross country and track, men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s cross country and track, women’s soccer, and volleyball programs each posted perfect scores, while three of Portland’s remaining four sports reported scores that were higher than the national average.

The 2010-11 Federal Graduation Rate for Pilot student-athletes matched that of the University’s general student body of 82 percent. The Graduation Success Rate measures graduation rates for the most recent six-year graduating class of students and student-athletes who entered as freshmen in 2010-11.

The GSR was developed by the NCAA as part of its academic reform initiative as a better measure of student-athlete academic success. The rate holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the Federal Graduation Rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
