The Pilots men’s soccer team returns to friendly confines this week when they take to Merlo Field for two home WCC games. The action kicks off on Friday when Saint Mary’s comes to Merlo Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Pilot men’s and women’s soccer teams will host a doubleheader set of soccer matches on Friday, September 27, as part of Movie Night presented by Safeway. The busy night will kick off with the men taking on Denver, followed by the women’s team challenging Wyoming. The night will then be capped off with an outdoor movie on Joe Etzel Field, “Despicable Me 2,” free for all. Fans are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the movie, as seating will be on the grass of the baseball field. For more information, call Jon Brooks, athletics, at 7431.
UP Day at Merlo Field
The athletics department will offer its first UP Day for a soccer game on Thursday, September 19, at the Pilot men’s game against Oregon State at 6 p.m. Much like UP Day at Etzel Field, the soccer event will feature free tickets for all staff and faculty and immediate family. Make plans to come out to Joe Etzel Field today, Monday May 6, to catch a few (or all nine) innings of baseball as the Pilots return home to take on Washington State University at 3 p.m. The Pilots will then travel to Salem on Wednesday, May 8 to take on Oregon State at Volcanoes Stadium at 5:30 p.m. That’s an easy day trip so show your support for our Pilots on the road. - Military Appreciation Games: Pilot baseball and the Oregon National Guard will celebrate all who serve our country with their Military Appreciation games. The Pilots take on Loyola Marymount in a three-game series starting on Friday, April 26 at 3 p.m. and continuing on Saturday and Sunday with 1 p.m. games. All active and retired military staff can receive free admission to the games.
- 16th Annual UP Day at Joe Etzel Field, Friday April 26 at 3 p.m. vs. Loyola Marymount. All employees and family members are welcome to attend the game at no charge and also enjoy complimentary hot dogs (vegetarian alternative available as well), chips and soda.
- First Responders Recognition: Come out and join the Pilots on Saturday April 27 at 1 p.m. for a special pre-game recognition of Engine 26 with the Portland Fire Department and University of Portland Public Safety for their contribution to saving the life of a Pilot baseball player earlier this year. All first responders will receive free admission to the game.
- Youth Baseball Day: For the Sunday game of the weekend series the baseball team is hosting a Youth Baseball Day presented by Oregon College Savings. All youth baseball players will receive free admission by wearing their little league or junior baseball jerseys. There will also be a post-game Run the Bases for kids and an Autograph Zone presented by Sunshine Dairy. The 16th annual UP Day for staff and faculty was rained out on Friday, April 5, so the backup game vs. Loyola Marymount will take place on Friday, April 26, according to Jon Brooks, athletics. The game will start at 3 p.m. at Joe Etzel Field. All employees and family members are welcome to attend the game at no charge and also enjoy complimentary hot dogs (vegetarian alternative available as well), chips, and soda courtesy of Bon Appetit. Please allow as many employees to attend the game as possible.
16th Annual UP Day, April 5
The 16th Annual UP Day at Joe Etzel Field is scheduled for Friday, April 5, at 3 p.m., when the Pilots take the mound against the visiting Gonzaga Bulldogs. All employees and family members are invited to attend the game at no charge and also enjoy complimentary hot dogs (vegetarian option too), chips and soda. Pilot Baseball, Tennis Action
The Pilots are set to take on OSU on Tuesday, March 5 at Joe Etzel Field at 2 p.m., and tickets are still available. Friday marks a three-game home series as they take on Seattle University at 2 p.m. Game two and three will be played on Saturday and Sunday, both at 1 p.m. For tickets call 7525.
The women’s tennis team is home this weekend for two matches at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The action starts on Friday as the Pilots take on Montana University at noon. Then on Saturday the Pilots take on Gonzaga starting at 11 a.m. Fans can enjoy tennis action for free so come out to the tennis center and cheer on the Pilots.
