Cecilia Guerra has been hired by the Office of Financial Aid as a financial aid coordinator and will be working full-time in the front office, according to financial aid director Janet Turner. Please welcome her to the UP employee fold.
According to financial aid director Janet Turner, the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators’ launch of the new Certified Financial Aid Administrator (CFAA) Program is making waves as a boost to the financial aid profession, with 75 individuals across the nation recently earning their professional certification in the last several months, including our very own Heather Hall Lewis, associate director of financial aid.
Also, as we start a new academic year, Turner would like to announce that she has hired some new and newer financial aid counselors starting with Marija Hobbs as of November 1, 2018, Bryce Buckley as of March 18, 2019, and Miranda Robertson, as of July 8, 2019.

A report from Heidi Keller, financial aid: “Today when Janet Turner and I went out for our walk, we bumped into another University of Portland employee (I wish I knew his name), and he said “Hey, look at that kitten under the car.” When we looked the kitten had climbed up into the engine compartment. Janet and I walked into the Beauchamp Center to write a note to the owner of the car and let them know about the kitten. On the main drive we ran into Lori Watson from the controller’s office and asked if she was going to the Beauchamp Center, and she said yes, so we told her about the kitten. When I got to my office I ran into Manu Jauregui, one of our wonderful public safety officers, and I asked him if he could save the kitten. He located the student, asked her to come to her car, had her pop the hood, then reached in and rescued this little gem. The happy ending is that Lori decided to adopt the kitten and took it home with her!” Thanks for caring, Heidi and Janet and Manu and Lori, we do indeed have a remarkably wonderful crew here.
The financial aid office has hired Marija Hobbs as its new financial aid counselor. She served previously as a financial aid coordinator in the front office; Miranda Robertson has been hired to serve in that position. She was previously a part-time financial aid office assistant. Please join financial aid director Janet Turner and the financial aid staff in congratulating them on their new positions.
The Office of Financial Aid welcomes Rachel Geiger as their newest financial aid counselor. Rachel’s first day is Monday, February 17. Please join her colleagues in welcoming Rachel to campus. For more information contact Janet Turner, financial aid, at 7311 or email@example.com.
On January 1, 2014, the Oregon minimum wage will increase to $9.10 per hour. All students currently earning less than $9.10 will automatically be increased to the new minimum wage in the new year. Please account for this while managing student employment department budgets.
