UP Bookstore Closing Sept. 5

September 4, 2020

The UP Bookstore’s last day of operations for the fall semester will be Saturday, Sept 5. Unfortunately, we must close our doors during the remainder of the semester. However, we will be available for online orders. If you do need to come to the Bookstore to make a purchase, please call 503-943-7125 to make an appointment. Erin and Mark will be around during the semester to assist. We will re-open near the end of the term but that date has not yet been determined. Please keep an eye on our website for our re-opening date.

Summer & Fall Book Orders Due March 27

Reduced Bookstore Hours During Spring Break

The Pilot House bookstore will be closed on Saturday, February 29, and will open with reduced hours Monday, March 3 through Friday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will also be closed on Saturday, March 8.

Barnes & Noble Faculty, Staff Appreciation Day: Dec. 4

November 27, 2019

The Barnes & Noble bookstore’s annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day will take place on Wednesday, December 4, according to bookstore manager Erin Cave. Faculty and staff will receive an extra 10 percent off their regular discount, bringing the total to 30 percent. There will also be an additional sale for an extra half off clearance item, but the two discounts cannot be combined.

Spring Book Orders, Course Pack Submissions Due by Friday, Nov. 1

October 25, 2019

All spring 2020 book orders and course pack submissions are due to printing services no later than Friday, November 1. The lead time is needed to assure all copyrights are properly adhered to and to allow time for large large print orders.

How to place book orders

  • Website (www.uportland.bncollege.com), go to Faculty Resources, located in the upper right corner of our home page. Registered users can save time by selecting the same information as previous semesters.
  • Email (bksuportland@bncollege.com or cave@up.edu)
  • Telephone (x7125—please ask for Erin Cave or Mark Heinowski)

Even if your class does not use a textbook, please let Barnes and Noble know.

For course pack submissions: Submit course pack materials to printing services no later than November 1, 2019 to ensure they are on the Barnes and Noble shelves prior to the start of classes.

Bookstore Closed on July 5

The Barnes & Noble bookstore will be closed on Friday, July 5, for routine maintenance, according to manager Erin Cave. They will re-open on Monday, July 8, at 9 a.m.

Summer Bookstore Hours

Bookstore Thanksgiving Break Schedule

The Barnes and Noble bookstore in the Pilot House will be closing on Wednesday, November 21 at 4 p.m. and will remain closed through Sunday, November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The bookstore will reopen for regular fall hours on Monday, November 26.

Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day: Dec. 6

The Barnes & Noble bookstore will offer its Faculty & Staff Appreciation day on Wednesday, December 6, according to manager Eric Cave. Anita Gooding, social work, was selected as a 2020-2021 Field Research Scholar by the Transforming Field Education Landscape (TFEL) program at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Scholars attend regular seminars and present their own research related to strengthening field education in social work.

Bob Butler, professor emeritus of environmental studies; Jenda Johnson, Earth Sciences Animated; and Nic Zentner, Central Washington University, published an animation titled “Ghost Forests: Evidence for a Giant Earthquake & Tsunami in the Pacific Northwest.” This animation explores how Native American oral history, geology of ghost forests in coastal Washington and Oregon, and written accounts of a tsunami that flooded Japanese Pacific Coast villages converge to document the most recent Cascadia subduction zone megathrust earthquake on January 26, 1700 at about 9 p.m. The Ghost Forest animation can be found on the IRIS website at: https://www.iris.edu/hq/inclass/animation/740 or on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xPbt8iiDRo&feature=youtu.be.
