African American Read-in

Celebrate Black History Month at UP

MLKIn celebration of Black History Month, the University of Portland hosts their Annual African American Read-In on Tuesday, February 2 in the quiet side of Bauccio Commons, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event is an opportunity for students and faculty to read and celebrate the writings of African American poets, authors, and artists. The nationally founded African American Read-In has been celebrated in schools, churches, and various organizations nationally for many years.

anjelou copyIn celebration of Black History Month, the University is hosting its annual African American Read-In and free cultural dinner on Thursday, February 19, at 5:30 p.m., in the Terrace Room. The African American Read-In is a national dedication to literary guests sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Multicultural programs, student activities, and the English department invite all students, faculty, and staff to share in the celebration dinner and reading. Participants are encouraged to read a selection from their favorite African American author, poet, playwright, songwriter, or individual work. All are welcome to attend even if they choose not to read.

UP’s Annual African American Read-in

The African American Read-In is a national dedication to literary guests sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Multicultural Programs, the Office of Student Activities, and the English department invite all students, faculty, and staff to share in the celebration dinner and reading. Participants are encouraged to read a selection from their favorite African American author, poet, playwright, or songwriter. All are welcome to attend even if you choose not to read.
