Advent Visio Divina: A Time of Peaceful Quiet

December 4, 2019

All members of the community are invited to step aside from holiday madness for 25 minutes of a silent prayer form known as Visio Divina, “sacred seeing,” in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher following the noon Mass, about 12:35-1 p.m., on Thursday, December 12. This ancient contemplative form of prayer asks only our quiet presence as we are guided through an experience of a sacred image from our illuminated Saint John’s Bible. Sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry and the Garaventa Center. Contact Karen Eifler (eifler@up.edu) with any questions.

Faculty and Staff Giving: Sending A Powerful Message

November 27, 2019

Each year some 8,000 donors — including more than 300 staff and faculty members — give financially to support UP students and programs. Gifts from faculty and staff, totaling more than $100,000 annually, send a powerful message to alumni, businesses, foundations, and friends of the University, that those closest to UP believe in this community and choose to support it beyond giving of their time and talent.

When you give to UP, you can designate your gift to an area that you are passionate about, including scholarships, a particular school or program, Campus Ministry, athletics programs, and more.

One of the easiest ways to give is through a payroll deduction. To sign up for or renew a payroll deduction gift, please use this link. For more information about giving opportunities, visit the Giving UP page here.

TLC Teaching Tip of the Week: What are First Year Students Like?

November 22, 2019

In this final IGNITE-funded video, Brenda Greiner (SARC) offers 5 ways that first year students hear what faculty say in ways much different from what the faculty member intended. These examples help illustrate some key insights into the self-concept many of our first-year students have about themselves as learners and Brenda suggests specific strategies for bridging the gap between what you say and what students may hear.
