Annual UP Month of Remembrance: Nov. 2019

November 1, 2019

Catholics believe in the Communion of Saints—the spiritual connection with those loved ones who have gone before us and the saints that lived as examples for us. Through the month of November we remember all of those who have gone before us in faith, especially our loved ones who have died.

Starting Monday, October 21, stations will be available in many offices around campus where anyone is welcome to inscribe the names of loved ones on a card and place it in the accompanying basket. The cards will be placed near the altar in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher during Mass for All Saints Day on Friday, November 1, and they will continue to be a focus of prayer throughout November, the month of remembrance. There is also an online form at this link.

We will also celebrate Mass on Sunday, November 17, at 10:30 a.m., with special intentions for the loved ones of our UP community who have died in the past year.

For more information contact Rev. Tim Weed, C.S.C., Campus Ministry, at x8919 or weed@up.edu.

October 25, 2019

a man in a black mask holds a laptop menacinglyInformation services provides online cybersecurity training to meet the annual requirement for staff and faculty. This year’s course includes 20 minutes of video, covering 5 core topics. Even with the most advanced security technologies such as firewalls and anti-virus tools, what cyber attackers ultimately count on is human error. In this course you will be introduced to the social engineering methods that attackers use to fool you into providing unauthorized access. By taking a few simple steps and avoiding certain actions you can help prevent cyber attacks and data theft. The course, “Cybersecurity Core Training 2019”, is accessible from the ‘Custom Course Menu’ in Moodle (https://learning.up.edu). Current staff and faculty have been auto-enrolled. The target date for completion is Friday, November 1. We also invite users to view a brief presentation that seeks to answer the question ‘Why is annual cybersecurity training required?’ The answers may surprise you!

For questions or concerns regarding this training, please contact the Technology Help Desk (x7000, help@up.edu).
