Academic technology services has started production on a new podcast series that will focus on the campus-wide use of technology. The weekly UP Tech Talk podcast will be available each Friday from the UP Tech Talk blog at wordpress.up.edu/techtalk starting on October 10. The 15-minute podcast features new guests each week and is hosted by Sam Williams and Maria Erb. Check out the Tech Talk blog for a list of upcoming topics and guests. Send a Bluff Box, Make Someone Smile
The alumni relations office invites all alumni faculty and staff to send a Bluff Box (a small care package) to their old dorm rooms, according to Katie Mitchell, alumni relations. A pre-made Bluff Box can be ordered online at www.bluffbox.com. The cost is $10 and orders need to be placed by October 10. You can also create your own care package and send it to the alumni office at MSC 157 and they will make sure it gets to the right room.

Annual UP Security and Fire Report Published
On September 29, 2014, in compliance with the Campus Crime Reporting Act and the amended Higher Education Opportunity Act, the University of Portland’s Annual Security and Fire Report was published and made available to all members of the University community, and to prospective students and employees. The report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University of Portland, and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus.
Also included are statistics for fires that occur in residence halls and polices relating to fire safety and preparedness. The report contains institutional policies concerning campus security, such as policies regarding sexual assault, emergency response, and other matters. Personal Remembrances of World War I
All are welcome to view the first of a two-part series commemorating the beginning of World War I in 1914 with memorabilia from the personal collections of University professors Steve Mayer and John Orr, and materials from the University museum and archives collections. On display now in Buckley Center are World War I artifacts from Mayer’s great-grandfather, who served in the 72nd Canadian Infantry Battalion. The display case is located across from the Shepard Freshman Resource Center on the first floor of Buckley Center.

Choral Arts Ensemble Concerts, Oct. 18-19
The Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland, formerly directed by the late Roger O. Doyle and now under the artistic direction of David De Lyser, performing and fine arts, is presenting two concerts featuring the music of internationally-renowned composer Ola Gjeilo, with the composer himself at the piano. “Luminous Night of the Soul; The Music of Ola Gjeilo,” will be presented on Saturday, October 18 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, October 19 at 3 p.m. at Saint Philip Neri Parish, 2408 SE 16th Ave., in Portland. De Lyser describes Gjeilo’s work as “choral music that is symphonic, cinematic and immediately accessible.” Also joining the ensemble will be local trumpeter Thomas Barber.
