Fr. Jim Connelly Lecture: “Brothers of Holy Cross: 1920-2020,” March 17
Rev. Jim Connelly, C.S.C., associate professor emeritus of history, will present “Brothers of Holy Cross: 1820-2020, from 4 to 1,000,” on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:15 p.m., in the Brian Doyle Auditorium in Dundon-Berchtold Hall. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture.
Fr. Connelly’s lecture will celebrate the bicentennial of the establishment of the Brothers of Saint Joseph, a group of young men formed into a teaching community in 1820 by Fr. Jacques Dujarié. In 1835, Fr. Basil Moreau took direction of the Brothers of Saint Joseph and, following his vision of starting a new religious community modeled on the Holy Family, united his auxiliary priests and the Brothers of St. Joseph in 1837 to form the Congregation of Holy Cross.

Bonnie Clipper Lecture, “Emerging Technology Impacting Nursing Practice”, April 2
Bonnie Clipper, first vice president of innovation for the for the American Nurses Association, will speak on “Emerging Technology Impacting Nursing Practice” as the final guest speaker for the School of Nursing’s 85th Anniversary on Thursday, April 2, at 3:30 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium.
Clipper is the chief clinical officer at Wambi, a patient engagement and employee recognition platform aimed at empowering compassionate care, and is an expert in the nursing innovation space. She created the innovation framework that is inspiring 4 million registered nurses to participate in innovation to transform health. Her career spans more than 20 years in executive nursing roles and she is a top nurse influencer in LinkedIn. She speaks internationally on radical collaborations and the impact of emerging technologies on nursing practice.
A reception will follow in the President’s Boardroom in Bauccio Commons from 5 t0 7 p.m. Clipper will offer reflections of her visit and those who attend will have the opportunity to engage in conversation over light hors d’oeuvres. Music at Midweek: Tim Connell on Mandolin, March 11
The next Music at Midweek performance will feature mandolinist Tim Connell on Wednesday, March 11, 12:30 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center Recital Hall. The event is free and open to all.
Tim Connell is well-known to acoustic music fans as a top-tier, virtuoso mandolinist, touring nationally with Don Julin, Eric Skye, and Mike Marshall’s Ger Mandolin Orchestra. Tim has also spent many years putting together a set of solo arrangements for the mandolin, from Brazilian choros to Irish jigs, from Beatles to Broadway. Tim couples these flights of virtuosic picking with heartfelt American songs, giving audiences an intimate window into his virtuosic yet emotional style and his deep passion for music and life.

“Reading the Bible Disruptively” with Susanne Scholz, March 18
On Wednesday, March 18, scholar and author Susanne Scholz will present “Reading the Bible Disruptively for Gender Justice in an Authoritarian Age,” at 7:15 p.m., in Bauccio Commons. Scholz will ask whether gendered Bible readings constitute viable intellectual alternatives to transform contemporary structures of domination.
Scholz serves as professor of Old Testament at Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Her research focuses on feminist biblical hermeneutics and the epistemologies and sociologies of biblical interpretation.

Barger Selected for 2020-21 NACUBO Fellows Program
Eric Barger, associate vice president for finance and controller, has been selected for the 2020-21 National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Fellows Program, a one-year professional development opportunity for a small group of promising higher education leaders in business and finance.
Barger earned a bachelor’s degree in health care management with a minor in communication studies as well as a bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1990, and a master’s degree in business administration in 1994, all here on The Bluff. He has served as controller since October 2008.
Sixteen promising higher education professionals from colleges and universities across the country have been selected for this year’s program. Over the next year, NACUBO Fellows will work with higher education presidents, provosts, chief business officers (CBOs), and other experts as they expand their management, communications, and leadership skills and learn from the experiences of others.
NACUBO, founded in 1962, is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 1,900 colleges and universities across the country. NACUBO works to advance the economic vitality, business practices, and support of higher education institutions in pursuit of their missions.

Feast of St. Joseph, March 19: All Welcome!
All faculty, staff, students, and the public are invited to celebrate the feast day of St. Joseph in a Mass on Thursday, March 19, at 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. St. Joseph is the patron saint of the Brothers of Holy Cross, who have since their founding sought to emulate his devotion to Jesus and his commitment to service to God’s family.
