Drawing on the gifts of our faculty, the Garaventa Center will host a wine and cheese reception prior to the April 12 performance of Shakespeare’s “Cymbeline” beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Mago Hunt Center recital hall. A panel featuring the show’s designer and UP faculty members will illuminate surprising dimensions of the play and will hone audience members’ enjoyment and appreciation of the show. The panel discussion will be 6:45-7:15 p.m.; “Cymbeline” curtain is at 7:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public; tickets for the performance are available through the Hunt Center box office at 7287.

From Our Past: Founders’ Day
The University museum and archives have created another post for the Museum WordPress site on Founders’ Day, celebrated this year on Tuesday, April 8. This post covers the origins of Founders’ Day, which in years past featured an annual visit from Portland Archbishop Alexander Christie, who founded what was then named Columbia University in 1901. David Houglum Appointed as Director of Moreau Center
David Houglum has been appointed as director of the University of Portland Moreau Center for Service and Leadership, according to Rev. Gerard Olinger, C.S.C, vice president for student affairs. Houglum, who has extensive experience in service learning, has been serving in this role in an interim capacity since September 2013.
Houglum has a Ph.D. in leadership studies and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University and received an undergraduate degree from Pacific Lutheran University. He has previously served as associate director of Student Leadership and Development and director of the Ignatian Leadership Institute at Loyola Marymount University. He has also served as both adjunct professor and faculty capacities at Gonzaga University and Loyola Marymount University.
The Moreau Center offers students opportunities to serve local, domestic, and international communities while developing the skills, knowledge, and habits to improve the world through hope, compassion and solidarity. Popular Moreau Center programs include the Nicaragua Immersion, Collegiate Challenge, and the Rural Plunge.

Parents Night Out, April 4
University parents are invited to take the opportunity to enjoy four hours of free time with their significant others while the UP onsite daycare watches their children on Parents Night Out, Friday, April 4, from 6-10 p.m. This service is provided by Vermont Hills Family Life Center daycare/preschool. The cost is $30 per child and $40 for two children and includes dinner for the kids. All UP faculty and staff are welcome to take advantage of this service. Faculty and Staff Invited to Apply for Accompanier Position
Faculty and staff are invited to apply for a 2014-2015 service learning accompanier position by Friday, April 11th using the online application found at http://www.up.edu/moreaucenter/. No experience is necessary. Any UP faculty or staff member who has a commitment to service, a desire to encourage student formation, and a willingness to live simply while immersed in an extended experience with students is welcome to apply.
Service learning immersions offered next year include: Food Justice and Rural Immersions (fall break), Urban Immersion (winter break), Border and Habitat for Humanity Collegiate Challenge Immersion (spring break), and Nicaragua Immersion (3 weeks of May).

Summer Learning Program
The School of Education is sponsoring a tutoring program for later elementary, middle, and high school students this summer. The program will be held on campus and will run from June 30 to July 31, 9:30-11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday. Children will work with tutors who are students in the School of Education’s master of arts in teaching program. New Museum Displays: Lewis & Clark Expedition, World War I
Museum coordinator Carolyn Connolly and archivist Fr. Jeff Schneibel, C.S.C., have created two new posts for the University Museum WordPress site: for April 3, 1806 and the Lewis and Clark Expedition; and for April 6, 1917 and the U.S. entry to World War I.
The Lewis and Clark posts connects to the Clark memorials on campus; and the World War I post links to Columbia University’s reaction, with student editorials/articles from the Columbiad. Lenten Services
Campus ministry and the Garaventa Center host Visio Divina each Wednesday during Lent at 12:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. All are welcome to spend time in contemplative prayer, focusing on beautiful images from the St. John’s Bible.
On Fridays during Lent, the Stations of the Cross are prayed at 4:30p.m. in the Chapel of Christ the Teacher. This prayer walks participants through the story of Christ’s passion and crucifixion.

RefWorks Workshops Available Now
The Clark Library is offering introductory RefWorks workshops, according to Diane Sotak, library. RefWorks can be used to manage information sources and used with Word to create footnotes, in-text citations, and bibliographies in many citation styles.
