This series is geared towards faculty and staff who are 55 years of age or older. The next session, “Understanding Social Security Income,” will take place Tuesday, November 4, noon to 1 p.m., in the Terrace Room in Bauccio Commons. Open Enrollment for the 2015 plan year will take place beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 3, and will end at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2. Next UP HIVE Event, Nov. 5
All are welcome to attend the next UP HIVE event, “Media Transformed: Capturing Our Attention in the Digital Age,” on Wednesday, November 5, at 5:30 p.m., at Colorhouse (519 NE Hancock St. #B, Portland, OR 97212). The HIVE group will explore the seismic shift taking place within the media industry. In a time when ordinary citizens are becoming on-scene reporters and traditional news outlets cite user-generated content, the media industry is challenged to engage readers and viewers and remain relevant in the digital age. Panelists will share their experience in navigating this changing industry.

Tuition Remission Due Nov. 15
Faculty and staff applications for tuition remission can be accessed through the human resources website at www.up.edu/hr/, according to Bryn Sopko, human resources. The application deadlines match deadlines in student accounts, so please keep these dates in mind:
- Spring term: November 15
- Summer term: April 5
- Fall term: July 1.
Please note that there are separate tuition remission application forms for undergraduate and graduate course work, and that any graduate level tuition remission benefits will be taxable to the employee on the value above $5,250 for attempted credits and subject to applicable withholdings, and will be reflected on the W-2 form of the tax year the remission was applied. Honors Mentors Needed
Faculty members are invited to serve as honors program mentors, according to honors program director John Orr, assistant to the provost. Faculty mentors assist with selecting the incoming honors class and are assigned two incoming honors student mentees and are encouraged to meet with them on a regular basis during their first two years at the University. Those who would like to learn more about being a mentor starting next fall are asked to contact Orr at 7286 or orr@up.edu.

Udall Scholarship Nominees Needed
Faculty members are requested to nominate students for the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship, available to current sophomore or junior students who meet one or more of these criteria:
- Students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to the environment;
- Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to public policy;
- Native American and Alaska Native students who have demonstrated commitment to careers related to Native American health care.

Monthly Timesheets Due Oct. 27
Monthly paid employees need to fill out electronic timesheets and submit them by 3 p.m. on Monday, October 27, according to Debbie Schwartzkopf, payroll. Day of the Dead Celebration, Oct. 30
All faculty and staff and their families are welcome to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead,” on Thursday, October 30, from 6 to 8 p.m., in St. Mary’s Student Center lounge. The event is free and open to students and neighbors as well. Activities will include arts and crafts, music, dancing, and more.
