This week’s #uptechtips is all about getting started with podcasts. Podcasts are internet distributed, episodic audio or video programs. They are almost always free. What makes podcasts truly special is that the low-cost and resources needed to make a podcast allows a wide variety of people to start making their own podcasts and share their knowledge and stories with a potentially huge audience. Many people love podcasts, others have never tried one out but may be curious as to what they’re missing out on. If you’re traveling this week for the holiday, now is a great time to dive in. Podcasts are a great way to make a long drive or flight more entertaining and informative. Chances are you can find lots of great shows related to your content area.  More generally, you can listen to one of many education-related podcasts to get ideas and inspiration for your teaching practice or just explore your outside-of -work interests and hobbies. No matter what you’re into, there is most likely a podcast you would love.

#uptechtip: Getting Started With Podcasts

I created a short video tutorial showing how to use the built-in Podcasts app on an iPhone or iPad to search and subscribe to the Teaching in Higher Ed podcast. This is just one example, however, aiming to show how quickly you can get started. If you want a more in-depth introduction to podcasts I would recommend this fantastic post by Jonathon Wylie: How to Download, Listen & Subscribe to podcasts.
