May Zoom Updates

May is here, along with a couple of exciting new features for your Zoom meetings! To access these new features- as well apply the newest security patches- you will want to take a moment to update your Zoom client to the most recent version. This is important even if you primarily utilize Zoom from the web since Zoom accesses the on-device client in order to operate your camera, mic, and meeting controls.

More information on how to update your client can be found via Zoom’s support site:  Update your Zoom Client. Note, if you do not have the Zoom client pinned to your computer desktop or dock, you may need to follow these directions to locate the program on your computer. Mobile versions of Zoom can be updated via your phone or tablet’s app store.

Read on for an overview of the key added features!

Meeting Reactions: More Emojis ?

With the newest version of Zoom, users will now be able to select from the full list of standard emojis instead of just the 6 basic options previously in use for Zoom. Have fun and get the good humor flowing! ? ? ? ??✏️?

Of course, should you at any time decide you would rather keep the selection to the basic 6, you can do so via your account settings:

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation panel, click Settings.
  3. Click the Meeting tab.
  4. Under In Meeting (Basic)-> Meeting reactions, choose Selected emojis to allow meeting participants to use only the following:
    • Clapping Hands
    • Thumbs Up
    • Heart
    • Tears of Joy
    • Open Mouth
    • Party Popper (Tada, Celebration)
  5. Click Save.

Note: emojis can also be disabled completely on your account if desired by toggling meeting reactions to off in your Meeting reaction settings.

Annotations: Vanishing Pen now available for meeting hosts!

Have you ever wished during your lectures or presentations that you could circle something for people’s attention, but not have the marking persist on the screen permanently? If so, your wait is over!

To use this feature:

  • Begin a screenshare or whiteboard (note, you must be the user to initiate the share to access this feature)
  • Click the Spotlight icon on the toolbar for the shared content
  • From the options that appear, select Vanishing Pen
  • Circle or annotate as desired
  • Once you release the mouse button the drawn image will begin to vanish (if you want to keep it visible for a few seconds while folks make note, simply keep the mouse button depressed until folks are ready to move on)

Happy Zooming!
