Hypothesis Pilot

ATSI has partnered with Hypothesis on a pilot project bringing digital annotation to our Moodle site. The Hypthesis tool extends the same type of highlighting and annotating that we use on printed out articles or Word docs to any public page on the open web or to PDFs hosted on Moodle. Initial research suggests that the social reading this technology allows can improve comprehension, foster deeper engagement, and encourage students to consider multiple perspectives. Ask your students to mark up a recent scientific article, comment on the latest news in your field, or collaboratively a analyze a social media post – there are many interesting potential use-cases.

Ben Kahn is leading this initiative for ATSI and has recruited faculty particpants from Education, Physics, Comm Studies, Psychology, Nursing and more. Participants in the pilots are able to use Hypothesis within Moodle, so that private groups are automatically created for students in your course. Training, consultation, and instructional design resources from the experts at Hypothesis are also available as part of the pilot program.
