SHPE at the University of Portland aids in the growth and inclusiveness of marginalized and underrepresented communities at the University of Portland campus to help students reach their full potential.
SHPE holds various networking events to aid the University of Portland students in developing key relationships in their early careers. Various speakers and organizations are brought in to share insight on their roles and/or life experiences. SHPE aids in connecting students to other companies and organizations with the intention of aiding the student in building their skill set and/or connections early on.
In alignment with the University of Portland’s mission toward service and leadership, SHPE will aid both the University of Portland and outside communities through outreach, service, and the inspiration of younger generations to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
All of the above events serve SHPE members in developing their professional skills and public image as STEM professionals while aiding the University of Portland in building a more inclusive environment for not only SHPE members, the engineering department, and the University of Portland Campus, but for the world around them wherever they go.
NOTE: You do not have to be an engineer or identify as Hispanic to join. Anyone in a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) academic track is welcome!!!
Mission:
SHPE at the University of Portland empowers Hispanics and other underrepresented students in STEM by providing support in professional and personal lifestyles, motivation and guidance to complete the STEM career journey, and the self-realization of their full potential.
Vision:
