Volunteer Opportunities with Store to Door
Every year, Store to Door volunteers make 7,000 deliveries of fresh food, medications, and household items to Portland area elders.
Shop for Groceries at Hollywood Fred Meyer: Think of it like a scavenger hunt for a cause. Join a fun group of 20+ shoppers any Wednesday or Thursday morning from 8:30am to about 11:30am. Each order is shopped individually and complete training/support is provided. You can volunteer one time or as often as you’d like.
Take Grocery Orders: Call local seniors each week to help them place their grocery orders. This role is ideal if you enjoy making personal connections. Calls are made from our SW Portland office during Monday or Tuesday shifts. If you need greater flexibility, you can opt to make a few client calls each week from home or work. We ask for at least a 6-month commitment to ensure consistency for our clients.
Deliver Groceries: Deliver nourishment and companionship every week. If you are looking for a fulfilling long-term volunteer position where you have direct contact with clients, this is for you. Deliveries are either Wednesday or Thursday late morning/afternoon and take 1 to 3 hours, depending on your schedule. We ask for at least a one-year commitment to ensure consistency for our clients.
Order Prep: Help prepare grocery orders for the shoppers each Tuesday by assigning aisle numbers to the items on the lists. The shift is from noon to 3pm every Tuesday. We ask for at least a 3-month commitment.
Mobilize Volunteer Shoppers: Take responsibility for welcoming and training volunteer shoppers at the Hollywood Fred Meyer on Wednesday and/or Thursday of each week. Hours are from 8:30am to 11:30am every week.
Administrative Support: Help with filing, database management, mailings and other useful tasks in our SW Portland office. Timing and shifts are flexible. This is a one-time opportunity or on-going opportunity.
Community Engagement: Staff fun events, festivals and fairs throughout Portland. Weekend and weekday activities are available. The timing of each shift can vary, depending on your schedule. This is a one-time or on-going opportunity.
Media Outreach Documentation: Gather, scan and creatively post our media outreach efforts on the website. Put your computer skills to work to organize and post our press coverage. The estimated timing is 5-8 hours.
Public Relations: Contact, update and research new media outlets for public relations efforts. Draft both press releases and media alerts. Distribute releases and alerts to the media. Follow up with the media as needed. The estimated number of hours is between 30-60, depending on the intern’s goals. This position can consist of some time spent collaborating in the SW office and the remainder conducted remotely.
Demographics Project – Senior Population: To better serve local seniors, this intern will: assess what client demographic data we already have on hand, update our records accordingly; research client demographic collection techniques; develop a plan for obtaining this information from our clients; implement the plan; and research current demographic data on the Portland Metro area with an eye to any future projections that might be published. You will have direct contact with our clients via the phone. The project must be completed in our SW Portland office and the estimated number of hours is 60.
