Duties: Gain valuable experience working with youth and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in a school-based environment.Expand classroom management, child interaction, and curriculum development skills. Engage with and support the local community. Tutor students on various subjects with an emphasis on reading, writing and math.
Responsibilities: Assist Site Manager and Extended Day Coordinator with daily tasks and assignments. Assist students with classroom assignments and homework. Design, develop and teach classes which enhance students academic skills and provide new learning opportunities through enrichment activities. Be a positive role model for students.
Training/Resources Provided: Volunteer training and orientation to be conducted by Extended Day Coordinator prior to start date, including behavior management and program duties. Site Manager and Extended Day Coordinator will be available on a daily basis for additional resource assistance and requests.
Commitment/Schedule: Will volunteer at least one afternoon per week (Monday-Thursday) from 3:00-5:15pm during one of the seven week SUN terms. Also, help is welcomed at special events, as schedule allows.
FALL TERM: September 28- November 19, 2015
WINTER TERM: January 26- March 10, 2016
SPRING TERM: April 4- May 19, 2016
Qualifications: 18+ years old.
Experience and enjoy working with youth and/or students.
Able to independently supervise 12-18 children, ages 6-14.
Able to communicate effectively and respectfully with parents, teachers, staff, and students.
Able to complete and pass a criminal background check prior to start date.
Have reliable transportation and arrive on-time daily.
Respect students and staff from a variety of backgrounds.
Be encouraging, patient, and enthusiastic.
Work as part of a team.
