Community Service Work Study (CSWS) is a unique program managed by the Moreau Center in collaboration with the University of Portland, and the Financial Aid department especially. Students who receive Federal Work Study in their Financial Aid Award Package are eligible to apply for the CSWS program. Eligible students are then able to apply for jobs off-campus at local, usually non-profit, organizations. The CSWS program spans for one academic year and students typically work 8 hours per week. Note: CSWS positions are unique in that students are limited by the monetary allotment outlined in their Financial Aid Package. Students can only work up until their allotment runs out.
How does it work?
The Moreau Center works with local organizations to create positions for students which then are listed online as available jobs. Students must then identify which positions appeal to them and fill out a CSWS application and a resumé to the Moreau Center. Communication between the students and the community partners is initially managed by the Moreau Center; however, the partners handle the interview and hire processes on their own. Once students have been hired by an organization, and the partner and student communicate this to the Moreau Center, and the necessary paperwork has been completed the student is officially in the CSWS program!
