Seniors are some of our most vulnerable and isolated community members. Volunteers help brighten the seniors’ day, share stories and laughs, and help our seniors feel connected and loved.
Volunteers of America Oregon provides a range of supportive and empowering services to our area’s most vulnerable populations – and works with them to rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Enrich the lives of frail and elderly adults with disabilities by creating a fun, collaborative and safe environment where they can interact and explore. They are specifically seeking a Spanish speaking volunteer to engage with a new client who primarily speaks Spanish. She only visits the center on Fridays but general volunteers are welcome Monday-Friday.
Some activities include:
1. Assist the Activity Coordinator in facilitating activities such as art therapy, exercise class, bingo, oral histories, horticultural therapy, creative writing / cartooning, and music therapy.
2. Support a variety of activities, or pick your favorite to assist each week.
3. Interact with participants to encourage engagement and form supportive relationships.
4. Accompany participants on organized outings off-site, based on need and interest (optional!)
