My name is Teri Grimmer and I am an Executive in Residence within the Pamplin School of Business.
Babysitting led to me into accounting. My top clients in high school were CPAs. They were great people, so being exposed to this career early was instrumental when choosing my major in school. I earned my B.A in Business Administration and M.S. in Accountancy from the University of Montana (Missoula).
I am a Certified Public Accountant, holding active licenses in California, Oregon and Montana, as well as a Chartered Global Management Accountant. I have had various financial positions including, paperless accounting administrator, senior tax accountant, and auditor. For the past 14 years, I have worked as a financial consultant specializing in the health care industry.
Today, I am a member of the AICPA (American Institute of CPA’s), and OSCPA (Oregon Society of CPA’s). Since I hold my CPA in California, Montana and Oregon, I keep in touch with many firms I have worked for in the past. I am always happy to help students network with these firms.
The advice I would give to my students is to find passion within a discipline. We all have our unique talents, find yours and focus your strengths on that. Accountants are used in every industry, think about a career in an industry that interests you. I have combined my interests with my career during the summers. Since I love history, and art, I set up a mobile office in a rent-a-car touring Ruins, Cathedrals and Museums of Europe by day, and accounting by night.
The advice I would give my 20-year-old self, would be to study abroad, travel, and experience the world.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about accounting as a discipline, please send me an email or come by my office. I would be happy to help you.
