My name is Cecilia Lin and I am an Assistant Professor of Accounting within the Pamplin School of Business. I have always loved numbers and problem solving so my educational path was relatively straight forward. I earned my B.S. and M.S. degrees from San Jose State University, and my Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. My research interest is mainly in the area of international accounting. The International Financial Reporting Standards and the way capital markets have adopted them are of particular interest to me.
I teach Principles of Financial and Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Controllership, and Intermediate Accounting.
I am also the faculty advisor for the Nu Omega Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP). If you are unfamiliar with BAP, it is an international honors organization on campus open to accounting, finance, and OTM members. Their events consist of a combination of service events, like tutoring hours and book drives, and professional events, like hosting guest speakers and speed networking events.
This recognition will set our students apart as they are now able to join an internationally recognized honors organization that promotes development not only professionally, but ethically and morally as well. I hope you will look into joining us.
There are two things I believe students should remember. First, to get involved in student organizations on campus, and take the opportunity to develop your leadership, communication and interpersonal skills. Second, study hard and stay focused. Having the technical knowledge of your field is a must if you want to be successful.
