Following last week’s announcement of the Portland Trail Blazers’ launch of its NBA G League to operate in the Chiles Center on the University of Portland’s campus, the Pamplin School of Business is excited to share opportunities for its students and business community, as a result of this partnership.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Trail Blazers in conjunction with their launch of their NBA G league team here in Portland and UP. In collaboration with their team, we will be able to offer a range of internships and other job opportunities to our business students. This fits with the university’s strategic plan to ‘establish…programs in emerging areas such as sports analytics and sports management’” says Dr. Michael DeVaughn, Dean of the Pamplin School of Business.

With the new G league’s expected season to debut in the 2023-24 season, the Pamplin School of Business will be working closely with the Trail Blazers as they finalize employment opportunities to support the new team. The benefit of having the team play at the Chiles Center allows for easy student access to internships and jobs directly on campus.

“We are excited to continue to grow our partnership with the Portland Trail Blazers and welcome the NBA G League to campus,” said Scott Leykam, University of Portland Vice President for Athletics. “With the excitement around UP men’s and women’s basketball, annually hosting the OSAA State Championships and now the addition of a G League team, the Chiles Center and UP Athletics will now host over 200 events annually and serve as the community hub for fans of basketball at all levels. This partnership will also give numerous UP students valuable on-campus work experience and internships with a storied professional sports franchise.”

Pamplin Pilots can expect to be informed about opportunities in business management, data analytics, marketing and more, as it relates to the sports industry.
