Team members may be forgiven for some time warp confusion. Not only have we coped with the usual jet lag associated with travel to an island nine time zones from Portland, we move daily between Alcúdia, a medieval walled city in Mallorca, Spain, to the ancient Roman city of Pollèntia, just outside the Alcúdia walls and behind the Tourist Information Center. Many of us are staying in Ca’n Ramon, a recently remodeled villa that includes a ground floor patio and first floor terrace, all separated from the street. Others have set up camp in Fonda Llabres, a hostal just down the street from Ca’n Ramon and operated by the same family. Still others are living in a modern apartment complex on the outskirts of town. Ca’n Ramon is home for all of us, however–the site for meals, conversation, showers, laundry, and planning. The walls are so thick and the ocean breezes so gracious that we can often avoid air conditioning. UPDATE: UP team members have threatened bodily harm to the writer of this post for jinxing the weather; oppressive heat has made air conditioning mandatory this last week.
