In my first post on our blog, I shared moments from working in the field at Pollentia. While the University of Portland’s team in Pollentia spends many hours a day working in the field, as well as completing other tasks such as cleaning and classifying artifacts, it is arguable that we experienced just as much growth off the site as we did while on it.

We have explored Alcúdia, spent time at the beach, cooked, dined, traveled, and much more during our time. While these can all definitely be categorized as activities which fall outside the realm of archaeology, I have found that many of the core principals of the program, which is centered upon theology and leadership, have shown themselves in nuanced and unexpected ways. Examples of these include during visits to locations such as the Sagrada Familia and Església de Sant Jaume, as well as moments such as my experience taking a solo trip to Germany.

Below, I have outlined some of my favorite highlights from the trip, all of which I believe exemplify our goals within the program.
