Sundays and Tuesdays are the big days for shopping in Alcúdia. Vendors set up just outside the southern and southeastern walls, and stalls run from olives, serrano ham, and fruits & veggies to lacy underwear, pearls, and flip-flops. Food prices in the market are much cheaper than those of the Spar and Mercadona chain stores–and chatting and haggling with the vendors is a big part of the fun.
Mary Hansen, volunteer member of the UP Pollèntia Team, is the designated base camp cook at Ca’n Ramon. All of the shop vendors know her; “Where is May-ry?” is the greeting anyone else in our group receives when we head out to buy some small item she forgot.
