How will the transition to Office365 impact students?
With the implementation of Office365, email and calendaring services for students will transition from Gmail to Office 365. Migrating students to the same email, calendaring and collaboration platform as faculty and staff will enhance communications and facilitate calendar sharing, file sharing and collaboration throughout the academic community as well as across the entire campus. In addition, student data from Google Drive will be transferred to Office 365 OneDrive.
When will Gmail and Google Docs be Migrated?
Gmail and Google Drive migration will take place over the winter break. Starting January 6th, your UP student email will be routed to your new Office365 inbox and email messages will no longer be received or sent from your Gmail account. All of your gmail contacts, calendar appointments, and email folders will be migrated to your Office365 account. The migration of all Google Drive data will also complete by January 6th. You will see a ‘Migrated’ document folder in Ofice365 OneDrive once your data has been transferred.
Where will I find my transferred email and drive data?
Your gmail folders, contacts and calendar as well as your google drive data will be available in the Office365 portal via the online apps: Email, Calendar, and OneDrive. Your migrated google drive files will be located in a folder called ‘Migrated’. See below for more details on accessing these apps from your devices.
How Will I Access My New Office365 Email and Calendar?
There are several ways to access your new Office365 email and calendar online via a web browser:
- pilots.up.edu: Login to PilotsUP and click on the Email Quick Link. This will bring you to the Office365 (Outlook) email sign on page. Enter your student email address and network password to sign in to your new Office365 Email account.
- up.appid.com: Login to UP’s Web Application Single Sign On portal and click the Office 365 App. At the bottom of the Office365 Portal page you will see tiles for all of your Office365 apps including one for email and one for calendar. Click the appropriate tile to access the desired Office365 service.
- portal.office.com: This URL brings you directly to the Office365 portal where you can sign in using your student email account and password. Click the appropriate tile to access the desired Office365 service.
- outlook.office.com: This URL brings you directly to the Office365 email (Outlook) sign-on page where you can sign in using your student email account and password.
Your Office365 email will also be accessible via your mobile phone or tablet, by following a few quick steps as described below.
How Do I Setup Email on My Mobile Phone or Tablet?
To setup email on your smartphone or tablet, you can download the outlook mobile app from your app store or configure your native mail app for Office365 email. Click the desired link below for detailed instructions for your device:
Can I Reset My Password Using the Office365 Password Reset Link?
The Office365 password reset tool is not enabled on the UP Office365 Portal. To reset your password please use our password reset tool. Visit up.edu/pwc for password reset instructions.

How Can I Get Started with Office365 Online Apps and OneDrive?
Log in to the Office 365 portal at portal.office.com. The first thing you should do when you log in for the first time is to click on the OneDrive tile. The first time you access OneDrive your cloud storage will be set-up for you, which may take a minute or two. Once OneDrive is ready to go, you can create, edit and share documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and notes in the cloud. What is OneDrive?
OneDrive is online file storage provided with each Office 365 account. Each user receives 1 Terabyte of online cloud storage for files and documents. Can I still use my University of Portland Google Account after the migration?
After the migration is completed on Jan. 6th 2016, students will be able to login to their google account, however email service for sending and receiving new messages will be disabled. Google drive will also be disabled shortly after the migration of documents is complete. Students will still be able to sign into their Google account for Hangouts and Mobile Sync.
Will I be able to access Office 365 apps and other features on my phone and tablet?
All features of Office 365 are available for all mobile device types from smart phones to tablets and laptops. You can access your apps and files 24/7 from any internet connected device. Email is easily accessed through your native phone email app by providing server and login credentials. Email access is also available via the Outlook mobile app for iOS, Android, Windows phones and tablets which provides an integrated email, calendar and file management experience on mobile devices.
Why would I want to use the Outlook Mobile App for my phone or tablet?
The outlook mobile app is designed to work with Microsoft services, and is frequently updated alongside any Office 365 changes. The Outlook Mobile App also has the ability to sync both your UP email, calendar and Onedrive alongside other services, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook.com, Yahoo, iCloud and Dropbox.
Does Office 365 work with Macs and other iOS devices?
Office 365 for students includes the Office 2016 client apps for Macs. You can use the free mobile MS Office apps for iPhone and iPad devices by downloading them from the app store.
How can I learn more about Office 365?
There are many online training resources currently available to our campus users. We encourage users to start with the tutorials offered on this site. They can be accessed by clicking the ‘Online Tutorials’ tab at the top of this website. All students, faculty, and staff can also view in depth training for Office 365 via Lynda.com. What if I already have a Microsoft account using my UP email?
It’s possible to sign up for a consumer Microsoft account (used for consumer services such as Outlook.com, live.com, Bing, Onedrive, and Xbox )using your UP email address -. This is a completely separate account from your UP Office 365 account, even though it may share a username. If you have a consumer Microsoft account that shares a name with your UP Office 365 account, when you log in to Office 365 you will be asked if you want to access your Microsoft account or your school/work account. Just choose school/work account to proceed.
