A tall lanky girl walks into The Great North coffee shop. Her long blonde hair and iPhone cover her face, fingertips moving at the speed of light, as she sits down and plops her backpack full of books, notebooks, cameras and her laptop onto a table.
She puts her phone down and sighs, realizing the sheer amount of work she has the day ahead of her. After taking a few pictures of her latte art, she takes a moment to relax and collect herself before her next commitment. With her headphones on and coffee in hand, Sam Keeler gathers up her belongings and is off to her next endeavor.
A Parker, Colo. native, Keeler is known to be incredibly busy, a fact about herself she takes pride in.
“I am not trying to brag at all,” she tells me as she sips her latte. “I genuinely just over commit my time because I like to be involved.”
Her level of involvement speaks for itself, balancing three on-campus jobs, an off-campus internship, taking pictures for record labels, being enrolled in 18 credits and running her own blog.
The blog, called Half & Half, is a music and lifestyle blog that Keeler created and has run since 2014.
“I was really into photography and music and I always wanted to take pictures at concerts,” Keeler explains. “But the only way to do that is to work for a publication, and since I had very little experience I decided to create my own.”
Keeler now manages a team of ten contributors from across the country who work together to create content with interviews, profiles and photo galleries. She would love use her organizational communication degree to see Half & Half grow into something bigger in the future, focusing more on the marketing and PR aspect of the music industry.
