If you’re thinking about creating instructional media for online, hybrid or flipped classrooms, you are probably imagining creating video content. But it’s also a great idea to consider mixing things up by creating audio only content, such as a podcast or mini audio-lecture. Students benefit from class content delivered in multiple modes, and busy students will appreciate being able to make the most of their limited time listening to class content in situations where reading or watching wouldn’t be practical (commuting, exercising, etc).

UP Tech Tip: Start a Podcast for Your Class Using Your iPhone

The good news is that getting started podcasting has become incredibly easy. You don’t really need a studio, high-end microphones, a powerful computer and complicated audio editing software to create a simple podcast. You can get started using your smartphone and a free podcasting app such as Opinion (iOS only). Embedded below is a sample podcast I created and uploaded to SoundCloud:
