As part of ongoing efforts to empower the UP campus community with information that facilitates everyone’s work towards fulfilling the university’s mission, the Office of Institutional Research would like to share important data snapshots periodically throughout the school year.
Q: What has the University been doing to prepare for the upcoming accreditation visit in 2019?
As we gear up for our re-accreditation visit from the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities in 2019, the Office of Institutional Research would like to take this opportunity to update everyone with data collected by a new tool that has been developed to help measure ways in which UP supports the Faith and Formation of its faculty and staff.
As you all know, the three core themes of our mission are Teaching and Learning, Faith and Formation, and Service and Leadership. Historically, Faith and Formation has been among the hardest of these themes to measure in a meaningful way. Because our ongoing goal related to this theme is to “foster a campus-wide culture promoting human formation and the integration of reason, faith, and ethical values,” it is important not only gauge the extent of UP support for students, but our faculty and staff as well.
With this in mind, the Office of Institutional Research has worked with the divisions of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to develop an anonymous, three-question survey that can be administered after seminars and workshops geared toward professional development.
This survey includes the following questions:
- Name of event or experience:
- [Open ended]
- This experience helped you with your own personal formation, ongoing professional growth, and/or understanding of the integration of reason, faith, and ethical values.
- [1=strongly disagree; 2=disagree; 3=agree; 4=strongly agree]
- Please share how this experience enhanced your own personal formation or understanding of the integration of reason, faith, and ethical values.
- [Open ended]
The results for Question 2 from the Fall 2017 and Spring of 2018 when we’ve piloted this tool are as follows:
Total events that have used this tool | 4 |
Total number of respondents | 70 |
Percent of respondents who agree or strongly agree with the statement | 87% |
Average score across all experiences | 3.27 (Range: 1-4; Standard Deviation: .87) |
If you organize any events that contribute to the Faith and Formation aspect of our mission for faculty and staff and would like to use this tool, please contact Michael Johnson (johnsomi@up.edu or x7930) in the IR office.
