The Office of Institutional Research (IR) provides and coordinates information support for reporting, decision-making, and planning activities to help fulfill the stated mission and goals of the University of Portland.
Goals
- Promote the campus community’s use of data for enhancing communication, benchmarking performance, and informing decision-making
- Utilize best practices in data collection and dissemination in order to improve quality of student life
- Conduct all operations in the spirit of being service-oriented, user-friendly, and transparent
- Empower stakeholders’ ability to utilize information effectively by making responsive and proactive data resources accessible to diverse audiences
Current and Ongoing Projects
- Support campus leaders engaged in assessment, evaluation, and accreditation projects with the hiring of a Coordinator of Assessment and Accreditation
- Upgrade content and structure of IR website
- Administer internal survey initiatives and stimulate improvements in collection, analysis, and dissemination
- Collaborate with stakeholders and committees to facilitate strategic planning objectives
- Submit accurate data on time for external constituents and agencies
Latest Updates
- New website content includes: 1) Tableau dashboards on enrollment, retention, and graduation, 2) comprehensive assessment and accreditation resources, 3) external reporting calendar, and 4) benchmarking data tutorials
- Preparing to administer two university-wide surveys: 1) National Survey of Student Engagement and 2) Multi-Institutional Study of Leadership
- Developed a new IR office newsletter called “Data Snapshots”
